HELP ME! Got LR2 and One Cat Won't Use!

Postby Amay25 » Sun Oct 07, 2007 5:19 pm

Ok - so I have three cats. All three cats used the Litter Robot 1 fine...even when we replaced the globe. Well, when the second version came out, we decided to buy it because of the larger capacity in the drawer. The only other difference between the version was we purchased a different color (cream instead of black). We took some of the old litter and put it in the new one to attract the three cats (it's in the laundry room). Two of my cats transitioned perfectly and use it exclusively. However, since the switch many months ago, we have been having problems with the youngest (3 years old). He is FREAKED OUT by the unit completely. Also, he now spooks very easily in general (VERY jumpy at everything--skittish). He uses it about 80% (I THINK--dear God don't let me find out otherwise...) of the time. When we first got LR2, he would not use it at all. We sat AND SAT with him in the laundry room...playing with him, giving him treats, etc. Some times it worked. He would hold it and hold it. The poop would have blood and mucus in it, so we took him to the vet twice to see if he was sick, had something, etc. No results each time. They said it could be possible he was holding it so long that it caused a little tearing or something..irritation, etc...or he had colitis.

Well, we thought it after a while he was finally using it, but about once a week now he poops on the rug (this week he pooped twice on the rug and peed on the cat bed). When he goes into the laundry room to eat, he takes forever because he is so cautious. He even runs and LEAPS past it to avoid getting too close.

How to we get him to use it? We can't confine only him to the laundry room since we have two others who use it fine...don't really want to punish them.

HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also have a scardy cat that is nervous if something is out of place for him. His sister is more
relaxed so when I want to introduce something new she usually is a good sport. I recently had
to change from a Cat Genie because of technical problems and had to be without it for 5 days.
When I received the new part the cats refused to use it. I knew I had to go back to
regular litter so I started off with Cat Attract litter and they were both happy with litter but
I hated to clean the litter box 5 times a day.I got a Litter Robot almost a month ago but
the new smell inside the globe was very strong that scardy cat was reluctant to use right away.
I put a litter box beside the LR and cleaned the box every day. The sister used both LR and box. I turned on the LR when they were not near it for a few days. After two weeks with both boxes, I let the regular box get
really dirty , then both decided the LR was clean and the other was nasty.
I gave it a couple more days with the nasty box and the LR was the only one used. For some
reason your baby is telling you he is not happy with the new LR so you have to make it appealing
with something that is not. Is the cat just going on the floor because I had to use a scat mat to get
mine not to use my silk pillows on the sofa. I hope this gives helps you.

Turn it off and just scoop it for a week or so. The noise is at first disturbing. Also, keep your old litter box next to it so he going right beside it and nothing happens. Then start letting the old box get "dirty" while the LR is clean (still unplugged). After he starts choosing the clean litter, plug it in.

Also, try different locations. My cats want all the litter boxes to be at the north end of the house. Don't ask me why! :) This worked for me. I have 17 cats! Best of lucK! Purr purr.
