At wit's end

Postby Helen » Sun Aug 12, 2007 1:55 am

BOTH cat have just urinated on my bed.

I have been working like a champ to get them to use this thing.

It is in a box
Using cat attract litter
Using feliway
cleaning after every use

Did the dirty box - clean LR thing. They both were using the LR. No more.

I don't know what else to do.

Kitty boot camp? Put them in a small room (like a bathroom with tile floor) with toys, food, water and close the door for a week. Go in to give them love and attention, but keep them in there till they are using the box religiously and a bit beyond that. Than monitor their behavior after letting them out.... I am going to be doing this with two of my cats to get them to use the Cat Genie. A lot of people have been having good success with this process.

Uh oh. I may be the problem. I had plastic over the step. Removed it and they are both using the LR. But they aren't happy. I hope this is our last hurdle.

One of the cats is prone to UTI's and I don't think the "boot camp" approach is one I am willing to do.

Let's hope this is the end of the problems

Cat's often like to whiz in their owner's bedrooms when they're not home. Mine did that once. Now the bedroom door stays shut when I'm not home.

Scott,

We moved back home on July 2nd. My room [u]still[u] doesn't have a door... after finding that the cats urinated on the bed [i]twice[i]today ( I have been sleeping in the guest room) the mattress is in the back yard, and the box springs are covered in plastic.

The cats are using the box, but I am going back to work on Monday and that means they will be here for 8 hours on their own. I have been running the LR manually.

I had the adjustment all the way up, so that they didn't feel any "give" when they stepped on the shelf, but just now I have modified it.

Oh, will the trouble never end?

I am replacing
a) Mattress
b) Memory Foam Pad (new)
c) Comforter (new)

This is getting expensive!

You might try covering and securing your bed with a large (and cheap) plastic tarp. Make sure there's no place for the kitties to get up and under the tarp (therefore) still on your bedding.

Thanks! Box spring and dust ruffle are now covered in plastic, but it's a little barn door after the horses are out.

The cats were not allowed in the bedrooms at the apt. and no longer are here. At least in the bedrooms with doors.

They ARE using the robot now though.

Well, they are using the LR 99% of the time, but Franklin misses the box once in a while -----the turnaround, alas.

I just put the LR on automatic -----wish me luck!

(Off vacation and back to work Monday ---I can't run the thing manually anymore!)
