one cat peed on step

Postby KattB » Fri Oct 10, 2003 3:57 pm

I have no clue which cat, it could even be the one my daughter now has (she lives while in collage in a room over the garage so the cat comes for a vist off and on during the day). But someone either sat on the step or on the rim of the door but when I opend the drawer to change it, there was pee inside and it was in the front...where the extra bags are stored. Any clue how to stop it from going inside?
:? Also, when the drawer is closed the foam strip is on the outside of the base. It is sapose to be on the outside or inside..not showing? If on the inside, I must be doing something wrong as I can not get it to go in any futher.
Also, we have 4 cats and when it 'clean's' it all piles more or less to the left in the box. Is there anyway to get it to go more even?
thanks

I have seen something similar. One of my cats is 16 years old, and I had problems getting him adjusted to the unit, so I have watched him use the unit alot.

What he does is walk into the unit, but unlike my other cats, he does not turn around and put his head out. Instead, he just pees next to the door. Several times, he has missed the wall and some of it has gotten on the ramp that I made for him to reach the enterance.

I am not sure if there is anything that I can do about it. My other four cats all turn around before using it, but I don't think that I can teach this one that trick :)

It doesn't happen often with mine, so hopefully you are in the same boat!

Katt,

One of my cats also does the same thing once in awhile. Just like Hearth said, it's not that they are standing on the drawer and going, they are stepping inside the globe and going right there on the edge instead of turning around, so it falls on the drawer. I've found poop on my drawer a couple times, because my cat didn't turn around. He doesn't do it all the time tho.

The black foam strip on the drawer is supposed to be on the outside and showing when the drawer is shut, so yours is right. My dirty litter also piles into one pile in the drawer, so I have to change the bag in my drawer every single day, otherwise it would make a mess. I don't think there's nothing we can do about that, it all depends on where they go in the box for where it will fall in the drawer.

This seems to happen everytime the one cat goes in. I think it is the male and he is about 12lb's and may feel he can't fit in there, tho once he is done he goes all the way in to turn around.
Also, one of them leaves, him I think, more them pee on the entrance and the lower drawer. :(
We have 4 cats, and a few hours a day we have 5 cats as my daughters cat goes in the yard and comes up for a vist off and on all day.
I was hoping the drawer would be large enough to not have to empty it more then once every 5 or 7 days. AS it is, every day to day and a half we have to, as it piles up on one side. It is a bit of a mess to clean as I have to 'dry' it out and deod. it as the one cat keeps peeing on the dang drawer! *sigh*
It is still better then scooping, as that is something I did once a week, in an open box, in the living room, with 4 cats. I hated it, if I could be sure the cats would stay in our fenced in yard, I would put a cat door in and NEVER use alitter box! (I fear I am also very lazy. :( )
I have also noticed that some of the litter gets wet and sticks to part of the 'rubber' that is under the litter. They are use to one of those large courner litter boxes (the one that has the 'lid' that is the same that fits on top.) and they get 10 lb's of litter everytime it is filled up clean.
Do I need to get papers or something to put in the drawer, I guess I could get some of that pine litter and put it right where the 'pee' makes it into the drawer, when I take the bag out I just put the open bag on the floor and empty the 'litter' into it. That may keep it from getting wet in the drawer. Any ideas?
I have (glad or hefty) 13 gal. bags, the ones with the flaps, and it has been treated with something to keep the smell down. Even if I have to use a bag every day that is still only 3 or 4 bucks for a months worth. True, the .99 cent boxes would be even cheaper but I am trying this one first.

Make your cat turn around!

Postby Lauren » Mon Oct 13, 2003 1:55 pm

I had this problem for a few days when I first got my Robot. My huge 18 pound Ocicat mix would go in and do his thing, and sometimes leave me something special on the step.

Fortunately, it was a weekend and I was able to keep a pretty good eye on him. Every time he went in I'd go up and touch him before he could do anything. It didn't take long for him to get in the habit of turning around and keeping his head out. I don't think anyone wants to be snuck up on when they're about to use the bathroom!

Once you get your cat to turn around, they can do pretty much whatever they want in there, and you shouldn't be getting messes outside the Robot.

Hey Lauren,

That is a very good suggestion! I am going to try it with my "Nord"!

Thanks!

That won't work for me, even when I am in the room, I have a screen in front of the box, the cats got use to it. I don't even know when it is used till I hear it come on. It now happens Everytime with one cat. not sure which one.
I wonder why it smells as I have to change the box everyday, I was hoping to get at least 5 days out of a change...we have 4 cats...we use to have 6, but cat pee is strong. If all the stuff would fall at differnt places in the box, I might get away with at least 3 days but as it is, the most I can go is 1 1/2 days. ( I wish they went outside so I could get rid of any litter box, I even hat cleaning the dang drawer, tho if this one cat would just stop, that is still better then siffting.)
