Thinking about getting this, should I?

Postby KattB » Thu Oct 02, 2003 7:17 pm

First, we have 4 cats. and at this time the only place to keep the litter box is in the living room. right now we have ours , with a hood, behind a 'screen' so it dosn't look so bad.
I am lazy, when it smells , bad, I change it, by then it is time to dump all of it and clean the box, I did sift everyday for a time but got out of the habit.
We had, two, at differnt times. ( I am a slow learner...lol)
I never cleand the rake, and at that time we had 6 cats and only that one litter box. first I could never understand how to clean the rake. With 6 cats the 'box' got filled every day, that means we had to get 30 boxes a month! the litter was cheaper! Also, our one cat scratchs and so the top/lid of the 'box' would get holes in it from there claws, so much for keeping smell down.
The first box stoped working after 7 months. A year latter we got another one. It worked for almost a year, then , I guess now cause I did not clean the rake, it would just run and run and not stop. both got trashed.
This one cost even more then those did. From what I have read I don't think I will not like it but want to make sure. That is a lot of money.
Also, we have 4 dogs and they like to get in the litter, will that hurt this thing. (we can't watch them every min of the day.)
thanks

We're not lazy, we're domestically challenged

Dear Katt,

When it comes to domestic chores, I think cleaning the litter box ranks amongst the least pleasant.

We recommend one Robot for every three cats as the ideal. Many people are using one with 4. When a cat leaves, it takes 7 minutes for the Robot to begin it's cycle. If another cat enters before the 7 minutes is up, the timer starts over. With several cats using the same box, you face the possibility of the box being used more than once without cycling. This might not normally be a big issue, but it might be for you because the box is in your living room. You want to get the waste down into the drawer as soon as possible so it's not staying in the box where you can smell it.

If you use one box for all 4 cats, I would recommend changing the bag out every day.

I also have a dog who finds the litter box very attractive. Once the unit has cycled, the waste isn't accessible, so if the dogs don't get it within seven minutes, you'll be okay!

I got me LR the other day and love it. Once I put each cat in the box and they got out..knowing they could get out, there was no problem. I fear I have always had to keep the litter in the living room (behind a screen...old fire place painted wood screen) and we had litter maides (2 in 3 years time) and they made a LOT more noise then this one does. Their cycle was faster but that is no problem. We once had 6 cats and daughter took 2 of them. One of them may not have used this box as we have found out he dosn't like any litter box with a 'hood' on it. (Now I know why he did not always use the litter box's for me, other then the LM, I ALWAYS had hood ones, thinking it look and smelled better and gave them more privacy.
I not been abel to see every cat using it, tho I know they all do. One goes in and stays inside, another one turns around, puts his paws on the ledge and sticks himself out the door form nose to shoulders.
But they love it and I love it. I keep the screen up for them, but I could take it away and it would look ok, kind of looks like a space ship. lol
I want to save my $ and get another one.
