Big Cats

Dear smartfix,

I would love to tell you that the Litter Robot works great for 25 pound cats, but the reality is that I wouldn't recommend it for cats over 20 pounds. The cat needs to have room to go in and comfortably turn around.

Our official recommendation is that it's suitable for cats up to 15 pounds, but so many of us have cats bumping the 20 pound mark, I'd say it may be worth trying with some cats over 15 pounds.

Based on feedback from customers, large breed cats in the 15 - 20 pound range are much more likely to be able to use the Robot than smaller breed cats who are overweight.

I hope this helps. I'll keep bugging the engineers to make a Robot that will accommodate cats up to 25 pounds!

:D I have a huge cat as well and a second cat of average to large size. The robot sounds wonderful, but I know Bagheera would hate it if it was too small!!!
Had a Littermaid..it sucked........

We have Big cats

Postby srickard » Tue Oct 28, 2003 11:00 am

We have had a Litter Robot for about 2 years and like it a lot. We have 4 cats: an 18 pound Maine Coon (who is still growing), a 17 pound D.S., a Maine Coon kitten who will be bigger than my adult Maine Coon, and a small Russian Blue. They all like the L.R. fine. However, the adult Maine Coon pretty much fills up the L.R. I am also concerned about the L.R. when my big cats reach full growth. I would definitely buy a larger L.R. if one was available. 8)

You must buy cat food by the truckload.....LOL.

I was the same way with my 5 dogs while living in the caribbean.....people would stare in amazement because I would buy 10 twenty pound bags at a time. You never knew when they were going to have any at all.

Some of your cats are bigger than small dogs. Speaking of which, maybe Lauren can convince the engineers to make a Litter Robot that we can train dogs to use.

*bump* - There's still interest out here for a bigger unit!

There's definitely still interest out here for a bigger unit for those of us with bigger cats. Personally, I'd pay more to get a bigger litter robot.

Scooter, the giant Ocicat mix

Postby Lauren » Thu Oct 14, 2004 10:02 am

When I got my Robot two years ago my largest cat, Scooter, was one year old and about 17 pounds. Scooter is half tabby, half Ocicat. Now that he's three, he's filled out to a massive 21 pounds of adorableness and he still uses the Robot just fine.

My smaller cat is using the LR at the one week point, and my bigger cat is not, but I don't think it's a size issue.

The 14 pound cat has never used a covered box before, I made the mistake of letting him see it operate (he is fascinated by technology, but apparently not when it is his own bathroom,) and I think he has a mental block about something that does not look like a litter box, in his experience, is now something we are encouraging him to use as a litter box.

When enticed into it with treats, he gets in and turns around with no problem at all. I think it has plenty of room for him, it just has so much for him to think about that he is still thinking.
