LR not cycling help!

Postby FLGRL0821 » Fri Feb 09, 2007 10:07 am

I have had the LR for a few months and I love it to death but recently it has stopped working for no reason. I am sorry if this is a repeat but I have been looking for a while and have not really found a solution. What seems to be happening is that after one of my kitties uses the bot the red light goes on as usual and after the 7 minutes it attempts to cycle. The globe starts to turn slightly or sometimes it gets stuck upside down. I have tried unplugging it and plugging it back in in the hopes that the cycle will finish but usually it just stays stuck. So then I have to unplug it again, take off the globe, reset it and plug it back in and the green ready will come back on. Now when I trip the sensor by pressing the step the globe will cycle properly it's when someone is inside that the problem starts. Also sometimes the globe will just be turning back and forth for no reason. I think my LR is haunted! Can anyone help me? Oh, I have also checked those wire things under the globe too but they seem ok (I am not mechanically inclined sorry about the terminology) Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

There's really only three things I know of that can stop the globe:

1 Weight sensor adjusted wrong. It is supposed to stop it when added weight of cat is inside. But the proper setting depends a lot on how much litter you use. It may need adjusting to be less sensitive.

3 The wire thing that is under the globe. Designed to stop things if say the cat's tail gets caught and lifts the globe slightly. The cable length may need adjusting to make it less touchy. (ie make cable shorter so globe has to be raised further to stop motors.)

4 Really like 3 but cause can be some obstruction touching the globe.

I haven't changed the weight sensor (that I know of my husband is another story lol) and there is nothing obstructing the globe. I will play w/ the weight sensor tonight when i get home and double check the wires. How do i adjust those anyway? Thanks for the tips!!!!! :D

Weight sensor adjustment is on my old model to just turn the front foot of the unit.
I set it with a 4-6 lb weight on the front step so it just triggers. Then press a button to cancel and try again. Turn about 1/4 turn each try.

The cable I'm not sure as I never needed to change that part.

I just got my litter robot today.

I had to adjust the sensor wheel a LOT to make it MUCH more sensative. it is on carpet, and was not reacting to a simple touch.

None of the cats have used it thus far.

Can someone explain the danger of having it too sensative? I mean the cat goes and triggers comes out and triggers, and then the thing should untrigger when his weight isnt on the step anymore....

How can it being set TOO sensative cause an issue with the machine?

I didn't have to adjust the sensor at all so someone else will need to pitch in here. But when the cat steps up on the step or enters the globe (or jumps on top of the globe which happens frequently at my house!), the Bot rocks a little forward and that seems to set off the sensor. One issue cats can have with the Bot initially is the little rocky movement... It seems to me that it takes more than a simple touch to set it off... its the weight of the cat...

GOOD LUCK!

The sensor should be set by using a weight on the front step. I always set mine to trigger at about 6 lbs. Set too far one way and it won't ever trigger from the weight of your cat. Go the other way and it will never release the switch when the cat leaves so it can't run thinking the cat is still in the unit.

The setting is just just dependent on the weight of the cat plus the litter amount and type you are using.

As you dump litter you need to top up to keept the amount constant or else readjust as the litter decreases.

Mine did the same thing. Call tech support and they will run you through some trouble shooting. I ended up ordering a new circuit board.

I did finally end up calling tech support and they ordered me a new circuit board. I hope this fixes the problem. Customer service was really nice though. Shirley was very helpful. I can't wait to get the LR working again. I really hate scooping!

Were the buttons not working like they should too? That's what mine was doing also. Like I would have to hold the cycle button down for about 10 seconds before it would do anything. Anyways, installed the new circuit board today and it fixed it. Good luck, it will take you about ten minutes to switch them.

Actually no the buttons are not working at all now. before I could kind of coax it to cycle by adjusting a few things and resetting the base but now it just sits unplugged  I am hoping the circuit board will arrive soon!

Did you get the circuit board? Did that fix the problem? I might have to do this too.

Litter Robot customer support is the BEST. Makes a world of difference in your attitude toward a product.
