The bot setup was easy and straighforward, and I filled it with a third of a tub of Fresh Step clumping litter, and ran it through a cycle or two to check it out then shut it off.
I managed to snag the cat late Sunday and put her front paws on the step and put her head in the bot so she could smell it. She sniffed around a bit, then ran like crazy back behind the couch.
I was surprised to wake up Monday morning to see that the cat had actually used the bot! I could tell because there was a bit of litter on the step and the litter was mounded in the middle inside the bot. I ran it through a cycle then turned it off.
The cat started coming out and walking around on Tuesday and has been using the bot regularly with no accidents anywhere in the house. I have been running the bot manually, trying not the let the cat see me do it. She did catch me once or twice and seemed more curious than scared of it. She kept hopping on the step, pausing the cycle..all the while giving the bot this goofy look.
So this morning I turned the bot on automatic, and Ive heard it cycle twice today so I think I'm home free.
My impression of the bot seems like it's well made, and definitely works as advertised. Even though it's only been a week, I have never even caught so much as a whiff of any cat urine or feces (the unit is currently in the living room but will be moved onto the screen porch when the cat door arrives). I refuse to have that "cat" smell in the house, and so far so good. The cat is nice enough to dig a hole, do her business and then cover it up--so I consider myself lucky.
My first week with the bot has been great. No cat accidents in the house, and the cat seems to be using the bot--I'm batting a thousand here... At this point I highly recommend it, as it has saved me from having to scoop a dopey litter box.I do have to vacuum up some litter off the floor every 3-4 days but its a small price to pay.
