hmmm maybe things aren't going as well as i thought.

throughout today (before and after i switched to new litter) i noticed milo would come in the bedroom and sniff around like he wanted to find something inappropriate to pee on. i would shoo him away and then he'd go down and get in the LR. when it would cycle, i'd check it...and he hadn't actually done his business.

he's done this 2 or 3 times now...look like he's going to pee somewhere he shouldn't, be shoo'd, go get in the robot, but get out without peeing or anything else.

what gives? he's been using it fine otherwise.

He might not recognize the litter or like it... so he is looking for his REAL litter box...

You might want to put some of the old litter in with the World's Best and get him used to the new stuff more gradually.

Sorry, Lizz -- I see you specified that Milo was looking around even before you changed the litter. Still you might try putting some of the old litter in...

I am just wondering with Milo's weight and less activity if he doesn't have some sort of elimination problem... constipation?? Do cats get constipated??

My cat did the same thing for the first week or so with the Robot ... he would get in, circle around, and then leave without doing anything. But now when he goes in he does his business.

I suspect your cat is still getting used to the Robot ... he's just still a bit unsure about this new box. The good news is that he's comfortable enough to investigate it and climb in, so I suspect he'll eventually start using it every time as intended. When he does start to pace around the house looking for places to go, do your best to guide him into the room with the Robot and close the 2 of you in there ... after some more pacing, he should crawl right in and do what he needs to do. Give him lots of praise and a treat. A few more times like this and he should start using it on his own without your guidance.

Best of luck!

i locked him out of the bedroom last night (sad) so he wouldn't have anything inappropriate to pee on...and while i didn't catch him using the LR, there were new clumps in the drawer in the morning.

plus just now, i caught him using the LR and there actually being something left behind...so maybe he was just cranky yesterday and my worries were a false alarm.

Just be careful because I used to have the Litter Robot and had a similar problem. My cat was using the Litter Robot, although he was not happy about it. I would also catch him sniffing around spots on the rug, as if he was looking for a place to go. I wasn't too concerned though, as he definitely was using the LR. Well, I found out later (due to the strong cat urine smell) that he had been going on the rug in my hallway some of the time. I had thought he was always using the LR since I would see him in there consistently, but he was going multiple places.

I am having the same problem. With 4 cats we are video taping the closet to try to figure out who it is. It is a sudden thing. We have had 2 of the cats for 3 years the other 2 for about 4 months. They have been doing fine and then just started finding poop in the corner by the LR or on the step up to it. My LR has been modified so they are not pooping out the door but on the box it sits on.

Also one of my new boys doesn't cover his poo at all. How do you teach a cat to bury it? Some times he poos too close to the edge so when it cycles it sticks to the side of the LR or to the grate instead of getting coated in litter and going down the hole. The two girls love to bury! The other boy loves to dig and kicks litter out the door all the time!

You can't teach a cat to bury. That's the main reason why I bought a Litter Robot. Regular boxes (I needed two for one cat!) were stinking the house up.
