Litter Robot, LitterFree, Litter Locker

I have been using a LitterFree for about a year now, and I love it. Had used a LitterMaid before and had all the problems people mention in other posts. Now, though, we are starting to have some problems with the LF (error messages, needing new granules) and of course with all the LF company problems, we're out of luck. There have been lots of posts saying the LF company's comeback is imminent, but... I'm not counting any chickens yet! Anyway, was interested to hear how much people love the LR -- I live in Houston and with the heat, we keep windows closed and AC on, so something that will combat smells is IMPORTANT.

After reading all the posts I was more than halfway sold on getting a LR, but I then read about the Omega Paws and what sounds like a manual version of the LR, and it seems as if people are saying it's 90% as good as the LR but a WHOLE lot cheaper. Is the only difference (other than price) that instead of rolling the box and pitching the waste, with the LR you only have to pitch the waste? If so, is that really worth several hundred $$? I would really appreciate hearing from folks who may have either or both. I can (at the moment!) afford the LR, but I'd rather not pay the extra $ if I'm not getting that much "bang for my buck".

Also, I saw comments about the LitterLocker on the site and it sounds great. I found it selling for about $59 and that it was described as "like a Diaper Genie". Here's a stupid question: why not use a real Diaper Genie for cat litter? It's cheaper than the LitterLocker (about $25 on line) and I was wondering if there were some obvious reason why it is necessary to buy the cat-specific product instead. Any ideas?

This is a great site -- thanks to all the folks who keep it up and to those who post. I for one have been educated by the postings and have saved quite a bit of $$. Thanks!!

I've been using the LR for a few weeks now, but before that I was using the Omega Paws box. You're basically right... the only difference between the two is that one is automated, and the other is manual. I prefer the LR simply because it is automated.... which means your house smells better since it immediately gets out the waste, it's less work for me, and the cats are happier because they always have clean litter to step in.

I would definitely recommend the Omega box to someone that doesn't want to spend the money on a LR. It pretty much works as described. The only problem I had with it... was the waste would stick alot to the bottom and to the grate (which was really gross).... so I ended up having to clean the entire box at least once a week, which was a hassle. I don't have the same sticking problem with the LR, so I rarely have to clean it. Also, the LR is easier to clean (not that the Omega box is hard to clean, it's just a lil more time consuming because there's more parts to clean). The difference between the two is basically a matter of personal preference on how much time you want to spend maintaining your litter box, and to me... the less time I have to touch it, the better... so automated is the best way to go for me.

I also use the Litter Locker.... and I love it. It completely seals the odor, I can't ever smell anything at all. I've never used a diaper genie, so I can't compare the two... but the Litter Locker doesn't cost $59. You can get at Petco for $29.99. It's actually on sale right now for $24.99 ( http://www.petco.com/product_info.asp?s ... pt_id=%2D2 ).

Any questions feel free to ask.... good luck!

We live in Houston, too. The LR is working very well at controlling odors. I second what Ash had to say.

You really should turn the Omega Paws every day for best results. You might want to consider this if you are someone who is out of town from time to time.

Other than that, I think Ash covered everything.
