Apartment living choices

Last June I discovered this site and the Litter Robot. I was desperate for a better solution than the traditional litterbox, so I ordered the LR and waited. And waited. In the meantime, I began to have doubts.

My main concern was that I live in an apartment-style condo, so the only place to keep the litterbox is in the bathroom, and the litter scatterings across the floor were grossing me out. I had given up a bathtub to the cause, keeping the LB in there, but the litter continued to be *everywhere* and one day I realized that my cat Theo was actually leaping directly from the LB to the side of the tub, spewing litter out with him as he lept. For that cost, the Litter Robot was not going to resolve that most important issue for me, and it was going to add to my space/placement problem.

I had been calling the LR people after the 1st 2 weeks for updates on when the order would be sent, but kept being told it would take a while longer. That's when I went back online and discovered the Clevercat box. Basically, it's a Rubbermaid tub with a hole on one side in the *top*. If you put the hole nearest the wall, the cat has to climb out and walk across the (treaded area of the) top before jumping down, knocking off *most* lingering bits of litter as he walks. At that point I cancelled the LR order with some difficulty at 4 weeks, only then learning that it had actually been shipped the night before so I was out $35 shipping fees regardless.

However, the Clevercat box has been great! It is much smaller and is easily tucked into a bathroom corner. More importantly, it has cut down on tracked litter by at least 95%!! I highly recommend it for anyone who doesn't have the luxury of putting the LB where they don't have to see it or step past it regularly.
