Litter Poll

Postby Jade » Wed Aug 20, 2003 6:11 pm

For all of you Litter Robot users out there - Which type of litter do you use? I have been using swheat scoop because it clumps really well, but I find that it sticks ALOT to the rubber part in the bottom and the top of the globe, it almost looks like oatmeal stuck to the bottom. Which makes a nasty mess, especially for when my cat steps inside and there's pieces of waste stuck to the top of the globe, and it sometimes gets on his fur. It almost defeats the purpose of having the litter robot. I'm curious to know what brand everyone else uses, and if it sticks all over the place like mine does?

Type of Litter

Postby captret » Thu Aug 21, 2003 2:24 pm

We have three cats and use EverClean. I've only had the L/R for about a week and have not experienced any sticking so far. Our one cat is diabetic and leaves behind some pretty large clumps, which the L/R seems to dispose of with no trouble.

I am going to send mine back if this keeps up. I've only had it a week, and I have already had to clean the entire globe because it had poopie litter stuck all inside of the entire globe. My understanding of this expensive gadget was that it would make things easier, and have to be cleaned less, I guess all theories sound better on paper.

corn and clay

Postby cas » Thu Aug 21, 2003 10:32 pm

We've used it with the World's Best Cat Litter and with clay clumping litter from Petsmart. Neither have left a mess on the globe.

I guess as a last resort, I will try another brand of litter. I have to do something, because the swheat scoop litter sticks really bad. The reason I use that brand, is because it's safe for cats. I was told clay litter is not safe for cats.

Maybe try the corn?

Postby cas » Fri Aug 22, 2003 1:42 pm

Maybe try The World's Best Cat Litter. It is made of corn and won't give the cats clay stomach.

Swheat Scoop sticking

Postby Lauren » Tue Aug 26, 2003 10:01 am

I have gotten a fair amount of feedback lately that using Swheat Scoop is resulting in a lot of sticking and the problem is alleviated by switching litters.

I've heard great things about World's Best Cat Litter. It's lighter in weight (takes less to fill the globe) and doesn't stick. The only negative comment I've heard about WBCL is someone told me the litter itself had an unpleasant smell. (Anybody else have an opinion on that?)

I haven't tried either of these litters and don't mean to dis or endorse any particular one -- just wanted to pass along the feedback I've gotten.

the smell of corn

Postby cas » Tue Aug 26, 2003 11:18 am

WBCL just smells a little sweet in a weird way because it's corn. Jeff has a more negative reaction to that smell than I do. It just doesn't bother me.

In the LR, the smell isn't really an issue at all. So, we've been switching.

I use Arm and Hammer Scoop litter. Ever since I tried it when it first came out, I haven't looked at any other kind. Clumps well - doesn't stick to LR - and really does great with keeping the smell down in a standard litterbox.

I did go through a phase of trying to find a litter that was environmentally friendly, cat friendly, litterbox friendly, and human friendly but I didn't seem to find one I liked. :(

I tried Swheat Scoop about a month ago and had the same problems mentioned above so I changed litters. So far I have tried Scoop Away, Tidy Cat Crystal Blend, and Arm and Hammer Crystal Blend. The Arm and Hammer CB is way too perfumey.......WOW....that stuff is making me sick  Anyone else have a suggestion that works well in the Litter-Robot? I am still looking

Hey Talon,

Yah, SwheatScoop definitely can't be used in the LR, sticks way too much. I think I've tried every brand on the market... it's very hard to find good litter. But thanks to Racerchik's post, I started using Arm and Hammer Super Scoop Unscented (not the Crystal Blend, just the regular kind), and it works great.... no perfume scent, clumps well, good with odor control, and very little tracking. I used to use the Tidy Cats Crystal Blend and had the same problem... real strong perfume scent... I think maybe all the crystal blend brands have that perfume scent.

To control odor, I think it helps to empty the LR drawer on a daily basis. They claim you only have to empty the drawer 1 - 2 times per week, depending on how many cats you have.... but that's just not true. I have 2 kittens, and if I let mine go 2 days, it starts to smell.... so I empty mine every day, and I never have any odor in my house with this brand of litter.

Thanks Racerchik! :)

You know.....I used to use that litter a couple of years ago. I only stopped because I thought that it tracked too much. I think that I will go back to it on your recommedation  I have never used it in the Litter Robot. The Tidy Cat Crystal Blend is not too bad on the scent.....my only beef with it is it breaks apart too easy in the litter robot. The Arm and Hammer Crystal blend is the strongest sented litter that I have ever used.....WOW.....Thanks for your opinion :D

I used to use the Swheat litter, and it gummed up even in a regular cat box. Some cats may have a problem with clay litter, Jade, but most don't; I'd try switching litter before you send the LR back.

I found Fresh Step litter and Arm & Hammer litter both much better for my cats long before I bought a Litter Robot.
