ADVICE kitten hangs butt out of hole to pee results obvious

Postby ncprofile » Tue Jul 11, 2006 2:23 pm

 Lucy, my 4 mth girl, has no problem using the LR but when she pees she doesn't walk all the way so her little butt is either just in the hole or on the edge and she'll just go.

The results are either 1) pee on the step which leaks into the drawer making a huge mess or 2) pee on the floor.

I don't know what to do about this - she goes in all the way for a #2 so i'm not sure why the different positioning for #1 but you can imagine how much i'd like to find a resolution and fast.

Of course, i'm running LR in manual mode b/c she doesn't weigh enough to trigger the sensors.

Any suggestions/advice

This is a very very very very common problem. The solution I use (and others use) is to put a strip of duct/duck tape across the entrance. The cat has to walk or jump over this barrier and for some reason this makes the cat want to turn around afterwards. You apply two strips of tape, one on the inside and another on the outside pressed together so no sticky parts are exposed. I apply a new strip every time I clean the globe.

How high up to put the barrier depends on the size of your cat. Mine is pretty small so I put it half way up.

Ha, i thought i was the only one! Thank you for the advice. Luckily she's been scooting in recently so the problem corrected itself but I will keep your suggestion in mind if the behavior pops up again.

I don't know if it can be corrected. As an experiment I stopped putting the tape over the entrance to see if my cat has developed a habit for turning around now. Well, a whole week went by before he took a dump on the step. He also kicked half the litter out of the globe to attempt to "cover up" his mistake. :?
