Automatic Litterbox Central

I just found this forum and am looking for a better solution to the LitterMaid I just threw away. That was the worst!!

My question is this... My cat is big. he is 20#'s of big. Will he even be able to use this device? Also, can it be purchased at a retail location or just on line?

They say in their literature that there is a size limit. I think it was around 12 lbs. - so we were skeptical about our 13 lb.er fitting. But, he and his brother (15 lb.) both found a way -- they stuck their heads out. Your cat is considerably bigger, though, so I don't know. You could try it and return it?

The LR is only available through the Litter Robot people, directly, I believe.

We recommend the Litter Robot for cats up to 15 pounds. The reason for this is not that a larger cat would do any harm to the unit, but to make sure that your cat has room to go in and turn around comfortably.

The size of the opening for the cat is 8 3/4 inches high X 6 1/2 inches wide (oval shaped). You might be able to make a cardboard cut out this size and shape to see if your cat fits through it.

I have an 18 pounds cat using the Litter Robot with no problem. From what I gather from other Robot owners, large breed cats that tend to be long and tall (like my Ocicat) will fit better in the Robot than small breed cats that are very overweight.
