catgenie or litter robot?

Postby mark n » Sun Mar 12, 2006 2:24 pm

Hello,

I'm new to this forum but wanted to ask you some questions. We have 2 cats a Ragdoll and a white cat. I was wondering if I should buy a LR or a catgenie when it comes out. Our Ragdoll has some rather large and stinky poo. I was wondering what your opinions are. What are the plus and minuses of both units?

Thanks,

Mark

I have the same problem! But I went ahead and got a Litter Robot. So far I have been very pleased with it. It has defects but is so much better than the Litter Maid I was using I do not regret getting it.

I still have the issue that you do, as I plan to get another unit. If the catgenie seems good I may get that. Otherwise I will get a 2nd Litter Robot, so I have full coverage if something breaks, or while a unit is drying after a full cleaning.

If the catgenie works well, I like the concept of not needing to buy litter.
As for the Litter Robot, the only things I wish were different would be:

1 Bigger unit with higher doorway so cat won't kick out so much litter at times.
2 Deeper waste drawer so I could go up to 2 weeks before dumping it.
With one cat I have to dump it twice a week now.
3 Only had unit a month now, so no full cleanings needed yet! Just one litter refill. But for a real clean out I think it would be nice if unit opened up for cleaning with a latch and a hinge.
4 Since I read that the rubber liner can get ripped eventually, it would be nice if replacements just snapped in or bolted in easily. Item 3 might help with this feature too.

I like the Litter Robot a lot. The Litter Robot does take a certain amount of discipline ... if you don't empty the waste drawer frequently, you will end up with a mess that's much harder to clean than a plain 'ol rectangular box. In my opinion that's one of the Robot's biggest drawbacks. If you are disciplined person, it's not an issue at all.

I expect to be receiving one of the first production CatGenie units, so I'll be testing and reporting as usual. There are certainly a number of potential advantages -- lower operating costs and true hands-off operation, at a minimum! Hopefully it will have fewer adoption issues than the LitterFree. We'll know more about it when it gets here.

If you need something right away, I recommend the Robot.

On the issue of stinky poo -- have you considered changing your cat's diet?

As many people know, I'm a beta tester for Catgenie. Here are some advantages relative to the Litter Robot that I can talk about:

1. You don't need to buy or change litter at all.

2. The unit is physically a lot smaller although the usable area is the same.

3. It's probably a lot cleaner and smells less.

4. It's quieter.
