Automatic Litterbox Central

There's a new autobox on the market, the "Scoop-Free". ANybody gotten a good look at it? It appears to be based on the LM, but they have signed a marketing deal with Fresh Step, so the litter box is promoted as being for use with Fresh Step crystals, and even comes with a "pre-loaded cartridge" of them.

I won't use crystal litter, but I am wondering if the box is good enough to be used with other litters as well.

Crystal litter is completely safe for cats, so if you won't use it b/c you're concerned about its safety, you really don't have to worry about that. If you won't use it b/c your cats don't like it, then ScoopFree won't work for you b/c w/ the crystal litter you don't have to worry about clumps sticking to a rake or smelling up the home.

The real issue for some people is how much they hate scooping and smelling litter and if you'll have to spend too much more in buying ScoopFree litter cartridges to make the cleanliness and convenience worthwhile.

"I ordered the Scoop Free litter box directly from the company [at http://www.ScoopFree.com ] (I didn't want the hood that the costco bundle included). I've been using it for 2 weeks and the only thing I have to say is "Hell yeah." The litter box works perfectly - it hasn't jammed once and my bathroom has never smelled better. The product is top-notch. It is going to cost me about $40/month for litter cartridges (vs. $20/month for litter), but the price is well worth it. The Scoop Free is everything the litter maid wished it were - if you hate scooping litter and don't mind spending an extra $20 a month, order this right now.

Actually, crystal litter (as well as clay litter, which also has silica in smaller amounts) has been found to cause lung problems such as respiratory silicosis. Cats with chronic respiratory problems have been found to have more silica dust in their lungs than those without. Silica causes these problems in humans as well as cats. My cat's health is important to me.

I use corn-based litter with no such problems.
