Tidy Cats BREEZE System - My Story

Postby tjl153 » Thu Apr 17, 2008 8:48 pm

I just bought this system today (before I read the post on here about it). It was an impulse by at my local Target store. The litter does feel like chalk...my cats tried biting it when I first got the box out. I thought the pellets might be nice though, so I'm not sweeping up litter all the time. They were very curious about the whole thing in general while I was setting it up.

I put it next to their normal box, and they started sniffing around both boxes...seeing that their normal box is due for a cleaning, one of my cats decided to pee in the new box!!! YAY! The pad soaked it up and I haven't smelled an odor yet, but it has only been a couple hours and his urine never has a really strong odor to begin with. The other cat was a little more wary...walking along the top edge of the splash guard and sniffing the new pellets. He thought about using it, but changed his mind... I'm sure he'll figure it out in a day or so.

I looked at the Tidy cats website, and it seems that the pellets are supposed to dehydrate the pee and poo??? So, we'll see how that works. I couldn't find what they were made of though. The website is http://www.breezeforcats.com

If anyone has more information on what the pad is treated with to help eliminate odors, and what the pellets are made of, I'd love to know!
:D
Wish me luck!

Day 4 with the Breeze, and its going good...slowly, but surely. One of my cats has peed in it at least 4 times (that I have seen) and there is NO pee smell! Nobody has been brave enough to poop in the thing yet and my other cat likes to walk around the top and sniff it, but hasn't decided it would be a good place to go yet. I'll keep you posted!

The only info I found was that the pellets were Non-Absorbent Particulate Substrate (NAPS) pellets. I would have to wonder about the "substrate" as they don't tell anyone what it is. Nor do they say exactly what is in the urine pads and someone posed a question to me about the pads being similar to disposble diapers and equating them as not very environmentally friendly.

I will say this, it was a joy for the 3 weeks not scooping up heavy loads of urine soaked litter but I never had any takers to poop.

I just threw away my first pee pad yesterday. It was SOAKED but it didn't smell, and it held everything. It sort of is like a disposeable diaper, but if you're only throwing away 1 a week (as opposed to several a day for diapers) its not the same environmental impact as diaper disposal. I still haven't had any takers on the poop yet and they're still peeing in the regular litter box some of the time. I'm going overseas for work for a week...I think I'll leave both boxes out (regular and breeze) during that time, then when I come back I'll try removing the regualr one and seeing what happens!

What's your latest opinion on the Breeze? Is it still working out well for you? Any takers on pooping?

I was cleaning this weekend and found two packages of refill pads I never returned. Receipts are tossed so I put them up on eBay, seller name craftycleo, if anyone is interested.

Thanks & good luck with it!

I removed the cat's regular litterbox last weekend. The cat who was already using the Breeze for pee reluctantly decided he could also use it to poop. He was vocal about letting me know he was doing this.

The other cat sometimes went in the Breeze, but just couldn't make up his mind that he wanted to go potty in it. I left it there for a full day (24 hours). I'm not sure if he peed in it at all, but he definitely didn't poop....he seemed too stressed about it, so I put the regular box back. Maybe I'll try removing the regular box again this weekend and see what happens. I just don't want him pooping or peeing on my floor b/c he's been known to do that when he's unhappy w/ his litterbox situation.

On another note...the one cat has been peeing in the breeze a lot, and it has NEVER smelled! That's a good thing :)

I never saw a further reply to this...how did it end? What is the texture of these pellets?

Aha! So here's the Breeze site. Not very big, so I don't know if anyone will be checking back.

I love the Breeze. I travel 3-4 days per week. It is so nice when I come home to just have to scoop the poop and change out the pad.

However, I am having trouble with one cat who has NEVER adapted to the pellets.

I have modified one of the boxes to use a smaller substrate. But I am having trouble finding one she will use. I have 5 cats and the others will use the Breeze, so it is quite irritating that I have to still keep a stinky old regular litter box. I have tried the safflower seeds, which work great--but she will NOT use it.

I tried the Catgenie pebbles. She will use them, but they hold the moisture. Can't be washing them everyday--and anyway, they don't air dry at all.

Am wondering about the craft doll pellets.

If anyone is interested, I do have some cheap alternatives on the pads.....

we foster a lot of cats and got a breeze to see what it could do. the pellets appear to be some kind of nonporus material, not sure what possible odor reduction you could expect to see from them. i suppose if the cat really buries the poop in it. while i wouldn't rely on it as a main litterbox (we have a bunch of boxes of varying types, including a scoopfree, as well as 'normal' boxes with clumping or pine litter), it's been great as a back up. we keep it in a somewhat remote part of the house so it doesn't get trafficked as much as the others, but it still sees regular use. the pads really work! but you do have to check them often to make sure they're still good. I've found the cats only pee on one side, so after a couple of days i rotate the pad to make better use of it. from that standpoint it's great, i would be interested to see if there were cheaper options for the pads (maybe puppy housebreaking pads cut to size?) they're not too expensive. the downside is poop, there's really nothing to contain the smell and god forbid your cat has loose stools! I'm thinking i could substitue patio gravel for the pellets :)

i don't know if there's any way to tell if a cat will take to it, but it's worth a shot i'd say.

I tried it out and the cats would not poop in it. If I'd had the room then I may have kept it as a "pee box" which would leave the clay litter for #2, but I lived in a tiny cottage at the time. The other problem was that all 3 cats like to pee right at the front (they did not want to walk on those "rocks") so the pad was soaked at the front and overflowed into the tray and even if I rotated the pad the middle stayed unused. My cats will not use any pelleted litter, BTW. So I returned it.

The pellets are I believe made of a fired clay with some kind of waterproof coating.

I bought the Breeze around six weeks ago and could not be happier. I was initially skeptical, having used and been disappointed by other automatic boxes (LitterMaid, ScoopFree), but the Breeze truly has been, well, a breeze! I have two kitties that took to it completely after a couple of days. I can't say enough how much I love love love the urine pads. I feel the whole process of cleaning the box is so much more sanitary than with regular litter. Aside the urine pads, the pellets are much easier sweep up due to their larger size. In fact, I just pick up the strays with my hand and throw them back in the box. I can get the pads and pellets at PetsMart and Meijer. This is truly an innovative product.

I am going to get one of these for a kitten I have that cannot walk. He lays on his side in the litterbox and if I'm not right there when he uses it, he ends up rolling around in it and comes out with pee sand all over him. He HATES baths or for me to try and clean the stuff off of him. If I am there when he uses it, I can hold his tail up and use paper towels to absorb the urine. What fun. Then I lift him out before he has a chance to try to bury it, then there is no problem. Thankfully his poo has normalized. When he first got here it was runny. Now THAT was a fun time. He would get covered head to tail with poo, sand and pee. ACK.

I think the Breeze will work to keep the wetness out of his way. I am worried about the height though. I may have to chop on it to get it to a height he can manage. We'll see.

I plan to get a Breeze when I come back from vacation in a few weeks (my Holly is going to a...shhh, nice hotel! :D ) I have a scoopfree right now,and love it (when she uses it right), but sometimes she needs to poop right "after" she pees. Meaning, she pees first, jumps out of the box and poops right on my floor. I don't know if the Breeze will work for her, nut I'm willing to try it, because I absolutely do not want to return clumping litter.

How often must these pads and the litter be changed? How costly is this maintenance routine?

I am not using the pellets that came with the box, they are too hard. My cat cannot walk or stand, so he lays in the litterbox, The pellets that came with the box would be horrible to lay on. They are like the cat genie pellets. I am using little plastic roundish pellets instead. What I needed was a box where the urine would drain thru to somewhere else so cat wouldn't have to lay in it. With regular sandy litter he was always a mess. He would get wet then roll in the litter. This box is working out very well for him. You can use regular training pads I would imagine, instead of the special ones for the Breeze. I havent got that far yet, I'm still working with what came with the box. I am on the 2nd pad adn will check it tonight,. So far I dont know how long they last, He has kidney issues and pees a lot.

There is another box similar to this one called the Smart Box or Smart Litter box. It has a container that the urine goes into for real easy emptying. IT uses safflower seeds as litter material. IT is too tall for my cat,

Zoozey,

I am interested in knowing how you modified one of the breeze boxes to use a smaller substrate. I'd like to modify mine in the same way so that it can use crystal litter on top. Also, I'm interested in the cheap alternatives on the pads that you mentioned. Thanks!
