So, we have a breeze, and it is by far my favorite box. It does a great job of hiding the pee smell, like...an amazingly great job! Yes, the poo smells for a few minutes after they go, but the smell goes away pretty fast (within about 5 minutes). I think it's because she can't really bury her poo well in it due to the size and depth of the pellets. I'm going to try adding more pellets to see if that helps, as one bag makes it a little shallow. It is pretty loud when she's 'digging' in it, but definitely not louder than my old littermaid, or even the scoopfree (which is starting to grind and squeal a little bit during scooping cycles).I really don't have issues with the pellets needing to be changed all that often. But my picky girl prefers it for peeing. So now the count stands as follows:

1. Breeze upstairs in the 'cat room' - for finicky girl to pee in
2. ScoopFree (with Forever Tray) in 'cat room' - for finicky girl to poop in.
3. Nasty clay box downstairs in basement - for finicky boy to mostly poop in. I never know where all the peeing is happening, sometimes I'm lucky and it's in the clay box. I've never seen him use either of the other boxes, but I guess that doesn't mean he's not using them. Mostly it's the front entryway, the upstairs bathroom floor, upstairs bathroom sink, or where ever the mood strikes him to do it <sigh>. I have best results with him and clay though, so nasty clay it is. He was much better when we had the Littermaid, but it seems as though the new ones have horrible reliability issues, and I'm kinda holding out for the new tilting thing I saw you guys posting about on this site (forgot the name).

I'm going to hopefully buy some safflower seeds this weekend to see if I can use them in the Breeze without modification. Maybe even a mix of seeds and breeze pellets? I'll post again laster with results. I did try using the Feline Pine instead of pellets, and while they physically fit, they got really smelly, really fast. I don't think I"ll be doing that again :)

As for maintianing 2 boxes upstairs, I find it's really not that bad. The way she uses each box seems to be the least maintenance method. Scoopfree crystals now last forever, they still look brand new, as she has not peed in them at all since the last change (maybe 3 weeks ago?). So Scoop the poo from the Scoopfree once per week, change the pad on the Breeze once per week, and our litter room smells great! Now if finicky boy would just find a litter that he'd pee in all the time, I'd be set for life! I don't care WHAT he chooses, as long as all the pee goes in the box :)

I dont think safflower seeds in the breeze is a good idea. the whole point of the breeze is to let the pee drain thru to the bottom pad. that is why they have those pellets that do not absorb liquid. wont the seeds absorb the pee and swell up?

I got the breeze for my cat that cannot stand or walk. He lays on his side and lifts his leg to pee. With the sandy clay litter, OMG, he would be covered from nose to tail with it from flopping around trying to get out. I wanted something that let the pee drain down so he didnt have to lay in it. (more so I wouldnt have to clean up him and the entire room after he flopped all over the place with litter stuck to him) He hated the crystal litter. the pellets that come with the breeze are not exactly comfortable to lay on so I use airsoft pellets. 2 big jars of them per litter box. I tried washing them after a month or so, but that was more trouble than it was worth so about every 2-3 months I dump them and put new ones in. if the box wasnt right next to my frigging bed, I probably wouldnt even have to replace them. such is life with a broke down cat. I love the breeze.

I believe the safflower seeds are completely non-absorbent, as well...it's what they use in another box that's similar to the breeze: http://www.felinediabetes.com/SCB/SCBindex.html . This box still lets pee drain out, but it drains into a container instead of the pee pad (theoretically so you can test it, etc.) I think the safflower seeds are a bit smaller and perhaps more comfortable for them to walk on.

I would never have thought of airsoft pellets...are they safe if kitty ingests them? Also, do you have other cats using them in the Breeze? Just curious to know if they get kicked out and roll around the floor like crazy?

I do agree that I love the Breeze...just wondering if using something a little more 'comfy' as litter would entice either of my cats to make it their 'only' litter box :)
