Cleaning Up the Litter

Postby cas » Fri Nov 08, 2002 1:57 pm

There are two problems with litter: 1) Scooping it; 2) Cleaning the debris your cats scatter around the house. Problem 1 is discussed at length in the other threads.

Here is our newest attempt to solve problem 2:

We are currently employing the new vacuum robot: the Rumba. It works well on the wood floors downstairs. Jeff sets it into motion before he goes to work and the floors are clean when we get home.

Does anyone else have anything to add about litter debris control?

litter solutions

Postby debbie » Mon Dec 09, 2002 5:08 am

I have 5 cats, and the littermaid drove me crazy! It always needed scooping and the cats seemed to throw the litter across the room on purpose. So I took the littermaid outside, sprayed it off, and left it for dead. There is a litterbox called Clevercat that is top-entry, the cats jump on top and enter through a hole. The litterbox is pretty deep, and the cover conceals any waste, and the best part is that the cats can't kick the litter out! When they jump back up top to exit, the litter on their feet comes off right on the lid. I have two of these and they are the best by far that I have tried. None of my cats ever had a problem with it, they all started using them immediately when I brought them home.

Purr-fect Privy Litter Box

Postby schminkel » Sat Jul 05, 2003 12:03 pm

I've been using this one for years. It's mahhhhvelous. You have to clean the litter box yourself manually. I just use non-clumping and dump it out every two weeks. It has a hole in the side they enter through, then a grid they walk across. At the far corner of the grid there is another hold through which they enter the little box below. The litter box is a huge Sterilite plastic box you buy for about $5.00 at the dreaded WalMart. I have two real "kickers" but they can't kick it over the high sides of this box, AND it's contained within the privy. They then go back up through the hole in the grid and walk across the grid to the exit (removing the litter from their feet as they god!) I have no odor, no litter on my floor and no spraying on my walls.

I have had this same unit for over five years. I have two very large male cats and the grid only recently broke. They shipped a new improved version (stronger) for about $16.00. The rest of the box is in tip top shape.

I own the upright model in "Oak" for about $140.00 Their website is:

There is also a Hidy Tidy enclosed litter box. The design is more suitable for your living room, but they don't have the grid. For me, I have to have that grid. It really gets the litter off their feet. Hidy Tidy's web site is:

Hope this helps someone else.

HIdy Tidy cat litter box cabinets are beautiful and functional for any decor in your home, apartment or condo

• Sturdy, solidly-built cabinets that are waterproofed-both inside and out. Inside joints are caulked to insure urine does not permeate the wood.
• Wooden ledge that extends over the litter pan and keeps excess scratched litter in the pan.
• Bag container in for keeping plastic bags handy for litter removal.
• Cup hooks are added for hanging a scoop and odor remover products.
• Two openings in the ensure cats will enter and feel a sense of comfort and security because they realized there are two escape routes and create a fresh air flow.
