Frustrated

Postby Lexi*Lucky » Fri Aug 07, 2009 9:08 pm

Hi,

I'm the mom of two wonderful kitties, Lexi and Lucky.

I am a college student, and had to move back in with my parents. I brought my two cats back with me, which my mother hates. She specifically hates the litter box smell.

I bought a Scoopfree box on a huge sale at Petsmart, had it for less than two months. I loved it, but hated the cost. It was expensive. Then PetSmart didn't have cartidges anymore. What to do?

PetSmart said that Scoopfree was not going to be sending any more for a month or so, because they were behind on production. They offered to switch me out for a LitterMaid, which I have now. (Which was good, because I got the Littermaid for about 40% off, because the Scoopfree was on sale). On that note, I was in there today and they have Scoopfree cartidges, MADE BY LITTERMAID. Weird...

I am not happy with the LitterMaid, but can't bring myself to get the scoopfree back, because of the cost of running it.

I've actually considered shelling out the cash for a Cat Genie (weird, coming from someone who hates the cost of a scoopfree) but it's one time cost is better in my mind than the every 10 day cost I had with the scoopfree.

So right now, I'm using the LitterMaid, but I'm not thrilled with it. It makes a dang mess.

hey lexi-

that sucks. hey, check out this thread - i think it addresses a lot of your questions:

post17492.html?hilit=lexi*#p17492

Also, I found this from the company directly:

www.wheresmyscoopfreetray.com

hopefully that might clarify what happened with your scoopfree tray situation. not sure what to tell you about the rest, but it looks like from that website you might be able to save some money on their subscription service, should you choose to go back to scoopfree.

good luck, whatever you decide.

Lexi, I wish you would have found us before returning your Scoop Free. It is so much better than the Littermaid. Many people here are former Littermaid users and are now quite happy with their choice of automatic litter box.

You are right- Scoop Free cartridges are expensive. They don't last a month like advertised. there is a solution though. It is called the Forever Tray and you can get it here, Amazon.com, maybe eBay, or the website. One of our members makes them. Scroll down to the Scoop Free area of this board and you will find many satisfied customers using the Forever Tray with their scoop free.

It is a permanant tray that you fill with Fresh Step litter crystals yourself. It works better than the stupid cardboard trays in that it will never leak. Plus it is more eco friendly - you don't fill up your trash with cardboard - even if it is to be recycled.
You no longer have the expense of those expensive throwaway trays. You will be a happy camper with the Forever Tray.

because you are a financially strapped college student all i can sayis forget the cat genie. it is my biggest regret when it comes to my cats. very expensive cartridges and the smell is horendous!!!!! i tried the litter quitter to get my cats to use the real tiolet ya right another mistake. although i may try again now that my daughter moved out with the one cat who resisted. does anyone have advice on how to train cast with the litter quitter? thanks Cilla

Lexi;
As stated above a CG can be pricey but if you can find a CG60 (not the new 120) there are some hacks that make it more reasonable. Here are a couple of links to look into;
http://www.instructables.com/id/CatGeni ... Cartridge/
and
http://www.instructables.com/id/Refilli ... Cartridge/

I used the Arduino (http://www.arduino.cc/) and made my own contact block out of the plastic packaging of a Fusion razor starter pack. Good luck.
