Automatic Litterbox Central

So... I'm going to be moving in a few weeks, and I have a *very* vocal and very skittish cat. The trip will either be a 5ish hour plane ride, or 30ish hour drive. (Leaning toward the former at this point.)

Has anyone driven long distances or been on long plane rides with their cat? Were kitty sedatives/tranquilizers necessary or beneficial? What did you use? I've seen natural and/or over the counter calming agents at pet stores, and figure that I'll ask the vet about those and see if there's anything he can prescribe. If I go with the car option, my cat might not even need anything (perhaps Feliway). The plane, on the other hand, might merit something more like a sleeping pill...

Any information would be appreciated!

I have never personally used any kind of sedative on my cats, but my friend had a very nervous cat and when they moved she used an all natural product that calms cats. Apparently it worked great and the cat was still awake and aware of his surroundings, but was not anxious.

Your vet can give you something to keep your cat mildly sedated during the trip. The plane ride will be the least tramatic to you cat. The 30+ hour drive will be the worst nightmare possible. Cats hate cars and will try to escape at all cost. When traveling on plane you must have a airline approved cat kennel. Notify the airline in advance that you are bringing a cat on the flight. The airport can be cold in the winter - provide a nice warm blanket for you cat. Some airlines will allow your cat and some will not so shop around. If posible take a direct flight so you don't get separated from your cat in some bagage transfer nightmare.
