I'm still doing the complicated procedure I described for the Catit. I have a large carton of carbon pellets and I'm no where close to using up all of the filter media I bought. One sheet could last me several years.

The only new trick I've learned is to make the filter media shorter than the reused frame so if/when it clogs, water will flow around the filter and it won't back up the system and pull water out of the dome making it overflow.

Cleaning the CatIt by hand seemed easier than the Fresh Flow, but it still has a lot of nooks that you need a toothbrush to clean. These areas do get polluted with algae if they aren't cleaned.

How has everyone been doing with their bowls? Is everything still working or have you had to replace the brand you bought. I

The cats are still using the Catit (although Zen likes to drink directly from the faucet when I am willing to turn it on for her). I have had it for about six months with no issues, take it apart, and clean it weekly in the dishwasher.

I have the Cat It and my five cats love it. And the dog. My wife and I add water twice a day. No real problems, but the pump gets clogged occasionally and if i pop the top off and wipe the feed grate, it clears right up. Recommend it. And the filters are available at my local Stop & Shop, which is closer than the nearest pet store.

Yay! I love hearing all of these responses about the Catit. When I first went to buy it I think I saw one or two testimonials. I was so unsure. I wouldn't trade it for the world now. My girls love it, one drinks from the bowl and one from the fountain so both are happy.

One problem I have with the CatIt is the food dish that attaches to the water bowl. My cat so klutzy that he'll knock a lot of his food out of the dish into the water which defeats the purpose of having clean water. I just set it next to the CatIt instead.

I have the pet mate with the extra container and I can't live without it.

Hobbes (of calvin and hobbes) does not DRINK at all without it. Before I got it we had 4 UTIs and that was before he was 6 months old. I got the petmate and he drinks a LOT and there are no more trips to the vet for UTI meds. I have had two, the first one burnt out when I had to leave town on an emergency and left it running.

I threw away the food container that came with it. I never saw the point in using it when I also have two week long dry food feeders so of course it lasts longer than that and I give them wet food in dual bowls every few days. I saw disaster written all over that little food bowl! It would end up hidden somewhere in the house once they realized it came off.

I only use automatic feeders on the weekend when I want to sleep in. My cat is my backup alarm clock. There is no chance of me oversleeping when he hasn't gotten his breakfast at 7AM.

I think you all are nuts. I change my cats water twice a day. I thought I was nuts by changing it twice a day instead of just once. I'm sorry but my two cats have fresh water.

I bought a filtering bowl because water in a bowl would get filthy in just a few hours and the cat wouldn't go near it. Now it stays perfectly clean and healthy. Most important of all, my cat drinks and drinks and drinks water all day and all night, much more than he did before.

Drinkwell Fountain

Postby Waldo » Thu Oct 11, 2007 3:27 pm

I bought a Drinkwell about 2 years ago, but my 14 year old kitty just didn't like it--she preferred dripping faucets and bidets! Well, Fluffy passed away in June and I recently brought home a new little boy and he LOVES the drinkwell. I ordered the resevoir for additional water and I'd say it is necessary. Evaporation alone causes the water level to drop daily so you need the extra water storage if you don't want to fill the thing every day or want to live kitty unattended for a weekend. I rinse it out about once a week because the filter will catch hair, dust, bits of food.

Now I'm wondering about automatic feeders...especially for weekends when he can't come with us!

I just got a Drinkwell today and my kitty LOVES it! We recently moved into a new house and our old Petsmate auto waterer died on us right before the move (pump died after about 2.5years of continuous use & rare filter changes) He wasn't fond of the Petsmate as he likes faucet water, but i never got a different one...once we moved i just used a bowl in hopes of breaking him from the running water...no luck. i finally decided to get the drinkwell and i've never seen Lo drink this much in 3 years!
