Getting permission to read a private message

Postby BettyB » Sun Dec 20, 2009 2:12 pm

I understand I am to consult with an administrator, but at the risk of earning a dunce cap, I can't identify one. I just received a private message from someone I want to get one from and when I clicked on the link, it said I did not have permission. Can I get help with this please? Very much appreciated. Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas to all. Betty

I know there is a Private Message tab in your User Control Panel area. Perhaps an additional permission is necessary for this to take effect.

Don't think I've ever been notified someone tried to send me a PM so I can't offer any other helpful information.

Thank you, but I looked there and it screams at me (exaggerating) that I don't have authorization for private messages. I guess I can write a message via another source letting him know I could not read. It was about litter for golly sakes. This was my first private message anyway.

Hi Betty

Hang on, I'm checking. I have never heard of that either. The board was hit with some pretty gruesome spam not too long ago, and Jeff may have changed permissions for new users, I will get back to you on this asap.

Hey Abby, I see in my mailbox I have a private message from you. Guess what, lol, I'm still not authorized, but I will hang in there. Thank you, Betty

Ok, I found out why private messaging was disabled for some people, Jeff disabled it for non contributing new users hopng to never have a repeat of that spam attack not too long ago. I forgot he told me he was going to do that. So it is back working, in a limited fashion, for now.

Private messaging should work for everyone now, but no images or attachments are allowed. Sorry for the hassle. I'm really not sure why the software allowed folks to send a private message to a person who has no permission to read the message ;)

I know it has been almost 2 years since the last post in this thread but I am a new member
who also would like to PM someone and apparently those old rules must be in place again.
I also get the " you do not have permission to do that " when I try to PM.
Can someone tell me the rules? # of post, amount of time, or ask someone.
Thanks in advance for any help.

once your initial post has been approved by a moderator, you should be able to send and receive pm's. You just joined. try it again, please. If you still cant receive or send pm's I will notify The Man.

I'm in the same "boat" at the previous poster, as i can't PM either. Hoping that this post goes through to open the "door" for me to contact a member to purchase an item they have listed. Thanks!
