My boyz drive me CRAZY with fetch. I have to eventually hide the toy to catch a break because when they are in a fetching mood they wont' stop. I too have been woken up not only in the morning but at all hours with a toy dropped in my face when they want to play.

They started fetching when they were 4 months old and now they are 15 months old and still love to fetch.

There is a video of them fetching on the youtube link in my signature.

My cat has new variation. He plays soccer with a ping pong sized ball until he knocks it to my feet. Then I'm supposed to throw it and he knocks it all over the house and back to my feet again.

my Cody does that...he has this purple puffy yarn ball that he likes to play with. He will bring it over and drop it on the floor near DH...if its just out of reach, he will bat it closer and sit and wait. DH will even pretend to throw it, but there's no fooling Cody! He just looks at DH like he's stupid...just throw it! =)

One odd fetch behavior is that often he drops the objects a few feet away and stares at me, like I'm going to get off my butt and fetch it for him like I'm some sort of animal. Eventually he figures out that's not going to happen and retrieves the object the rest of the way so I can throw it. I'm thinking that he can't judge distance. If he sees me, it must be close enough to drop it for me.

We had a siamese cat in the 1980's-1990's (she passed away from breast cancer in 1996) name Sydney who played fetch. She would wait in the hall way and you'd throw a pom pom or something like that at her and she'd leap in the air and come down with it like she had been shot. She'd then bring it back to you. She was hilarious. She had an obsession with her stuffed animal toys - and she had lots of them. She'd carry them around constantly and leave them all over the house. We'd wake up in the morning to them all over the bed and surrounding the bed on the floor. I must have picked up stuffed animals several times a day. I never minded once. When she died, it felt so weird and lonely not seeing those toys laying around anymore..... (I still have her toys - I couldn't bear to part with them - I have them in a bag tucked away in the closet)

This is the first time I've ever seen a cat do this.

I have 3 cats and one of them does fetch sometimes. He also will come when you call him. He was a stray and I've had him for almost 7 yrs and I believe he is a Maine Coon or Main Coon mix....he's 9 or 10 now a great cat and very friendly and sociable! He will fetch mainly for company (attention) especially for my mom who insists he is like a dog and tells everyone that "I swear I throw something and this cat will fetch it and bring it back to me". He also will also start meowing with a toy/present in his mouth to bring to me whenever I'm on the phone...like a child for attention. Fetching, opening cabinets, curling their paws to scoop something up are a common trait to Maine Coon's as are the layed back nature, trill and fur features....they are big old babys and wonderful cats!

LOL! YES!!! I can not teach any of my dogs to fetch. But Lucas (Kittypup) would fetch AND do summersalts. (8/13/89 - 10/9/03). And Daniel who will be 14 yrs old around Labor Day also fetches! My Mennonite friend thought I was lieing. He is a believer now. Daniel also responds when I spell it... F-E-T-C-H. He responds with several short meows! And if I change the H to another letter... he will not meow until I get the correct letter. Go figure. Smart Dude. Oh, Daniel also likes to Shake Paws. My Mennonite friend had no idea why Daniel kept holding out his paw... lol. It was funny to see him shake Daniel's hand. Cats are very smart. What other animal could act so sweet, get a home, then act arrogant and ignore us... and still keep that home???

How about fetch using kitchen pot holder!

I had a chocolate point siamese female who would run down two flights of steps to retrieve a pot holder and dutifully run back up to return it to you -- UNTIL she just got too tired to play anymore.

It was sooooooo funny . . . sure do miss her and the antics she was responsible for.

We have a little black cat who brings us his ball in the evening after the dogs go to bed. He drops it on the bed in front of us, we throw it, and he comes back. He does this for about ten throws, then he stops. It is really funny to watch.

Our male cat use to play fetch when he was younger. He loves to chase small 'balls' of Hershey mini wrappers but stopped bringing them back to us to throw again.
