The bottom line with cats usually is "the more the meat the less the grain the better."
When we fell on hard times, it was the hardest decision to have to switch from higher-meat-content brands down to something like Purina.
However, then I saw a segment on a TV show about a cat that has lived into its 40's. Its entire life, it has been fed plain-old Purina.
That made it easier for me to switch.
My cats do fine, and I switched 4 years ago. One did end up with crystals, but only one, and he was easily treated. He also turned out to be a cat who insists on drinking from a tap, so we indulge him that to keep him healthy.
Would I switch back to a high-meat-content food if I could afford it? Yes, I would. Am I ok with the Purina in the meantime? Yes, I am.
