Replacement hose? Repair it?

Postby kittymom » Mon Aug 30, 2010 6:26 pm

Now one of my white hoses is giving me problems. (The other water problems are solved, YAY.) The part that screws into the processor is fine, the part that screws into the water supply won't stay connected. The threads are ruined. Any suggestions on how to repair it? I'm thinking I should replace it, it's too risky if the mended hose ends up coming off -- then water would be running all over the floor for hours until I noticed.

So... should I call up PN? Last time I called, no answer. If I leave voicemail there will I get better service than emailing them? I doubt they would send me a free replacement, they would want me to pay right? Bought my unit 9/3/09... so maybe I still have a couple days to call and get a free replacement? If it's not free, can I get a replacement at Lowe's? Is it the same as a hose that hooks up to an icemaker? Just looking for the cheapest option that won't break soon.

Thank you so much everyone.

You can use the braided stainless steel washer supply lines as they are the same size and thread count as the water supply line fer the Cat Genie. I ended up using a dishwasher supply line with the faucet adapters to fit on my Cat Genie. Take yer old line with you to a hardware store and they should be able to hook you up. If not, I'll run down the part numbers that I used to git you back in service. ;)

Okay, sounds good. Would it stick out, so the Genie can't go as close to the wall? Cuz on their hose it has that bend and it gets skinnier. PN won't give me a free one you think?

Well...if you have the room with the washer supply line sticking straight out the back would be a good choice. If you really need the bend I would go with the dishwasher supply line. Here's what it looks like on mine...

I ended up buying another 90° adapter so it would fit on the hose. The dishwasher supply line only came with one 90° adapter... ;)

Hmmm, I would like to use a washing machine hose if it will work. I already have 2 extra of those. Wanting to avoid buying more adapters, they add up.

This is the supply side...I got the Watts FloodSafe hoses on my water supply lines fer the washer and the Cat Genie.

I put the Watts FloodSafe washer supply hoses on his washer as well on his CatGenie. He's on the road a lot and I figured this would be the best insurance on water supply line failure. There wasn't any problem hooking up the washer supply hose to the CatGenie as long as you have the space behind the processor unit to work with. ;)

I would be leery of the washer supply lines if they are just made from rubber. I got some brand new ones from Walmart fer my brother's CatGenie setup and within 24hrs the outer cover of the hose started bubbling up from water passing through the inner membrane. :(

If I didn't check it completely before I headed back home...that would've been a disaster I don't think he would've been able to recover from. Invest in a FloodSafe hose now so you don't have to invest in a new floor/room in the future. :D

Well, my other CG is already hooked up with one of those rubber hoses that attaches to an adapter, then the splitter. Then the white CG hose (my non-defective one). So... I am already taking the risk of flooding. Actually it wouldn't be too disastrous (hopefully) because there's a sump there. So water would still get all over the place but not get too bad? It would fall down into that sump area and trigger the pump to come on.

I guess if you want to rely on yer sump pump to work if yer supply line breaks... ;)

Where is yer Cat Genies located? The FloodSafe hose is cheap insurance... ;)

Well I'll plan to upgrade someday but that would probably be $30 to replace what I have.
