Anyone ever have the GenieHand detach on its own?

Postby Pelvis Popcan » Fri Apr 30, 2010 11:35 am

I finally bought a CatGenie 120 a couple of weeks ago and all went well until today. When I checked it this morning I found that the hand had come off and was sitting in the bowl.

Nothing appeared broken and I just reattached it. It seems secure. I ran a cycle and it went fine.

I have the machine set to do 2 cycles per day.

I'm wondering how it could have happened... I'm thinking maybe the cat did it? :p

Just wondering if this happened to anyone else. I was hoping the CatGenie 120 would put all my past issues to an end! :p

There should be a positive click when you put the Genie Hand on. Maybe it didn't seat all the way in. Inspect the parts and see if there is any debris or flashing in the way. ;)

It just happened again.

Inspected it closely. It is definitely in all the way. No debris in the way. I pulled on it and was able to get it to come off. I think it might be coming off at the end of the cycle when the hand retracts all the way; the arm is pulling it out.

Looks like a defective arm/hand assembley.

I upgraded to the 120 after hearing so many positive reviews, I really hoped I wouldn't run into stupid problems like this. Not happy right now. :(

I think I solved the problem.

The Genie Arm has a plastic tabbed piece on it. This tab is supposed to click in place in the plastic on the hand and hold the hand on. On my arm, this tabbed piece seems like it's bent in too far so it doesn't create a secure hold.

I took some vinyl electrical tape and rolled it up like a jelly roll to create a wad that I could stick in between the tabbed piece and the opposite side. This pushed the tabbed piece out more and held it there, allowing it to now "click" securely in place on the hand.

Hope that tape lasts!

Mine does that too Pelvis. Every once in a while I find it in the bowl and the cats standing outside of the bowl just staring at it. I just put it back on and forget about it.
