What to do about these cat genies?

Postby ahlecce » Sun Mar 07, 2010 8:54 pm

So here is the situation: I have two genies and seven cats. One cat, Allie, hates them. I have found out over the past six months that she only likes Precious Cat Ultra clay and Precious Cat Senior crystal litters. She refuses to use anything else, except of course, anything soft which would include the carpet, the couch, and my bed. I previously had Littermaids before I purchased the cat genies, and stupid me, sold two of them several weeks after hooking up the cat genies. I would like to purchase them again, but it seems like the new ones are junk. So, does anyone have any suggestions on how I can either run the cat genies with either one of Miss Allie's litter preferances, or how I can locate the older model Littermaid Ultra Megas? I cannot use the cat genies as designed. I've tried running the cat genies with the granules and a littermaid with Allie's litter, and that didn't work. All of the cats used only the littermaid when I tried that. I hate that fact that I spent close to $600 on something that I now cannot use. Please help. Thanks.

Two things that might help, not sure what you have tried
1 - Try the different litter alternatives, as identified in this thread: catgenie/topic2500.html
2 - If possible (currently only with '60' version) use an alternative to sani-solution, such as what people mention in here. catgenie/topic2747.html

I have had no problems from the beginning with my two cats using the genie, and I do both of the above, even though don't need to. I purchased some plastic pellets on flea-bay (not the ones specifically advertised for the genie, for stuffing bears I think), and I also use a resetter device, one which I made from the instructable. For sani-solution, mix a 50/50 solution of water and Petzyme and seems to work OK. Lately have noticed some pellets clumping when the hand scoops, not sure why, but might be related to what am using.

On a different note, the same arduino I use for the resetter is used to control an automatic cat food dispenser setup and a motion sensor/servo combination wired up to trigger the genie when motion is detected.

Thanks, but I have tried litter alternatives and I have even washed it out with just water. Does anyone know of anyway to run the cat genies with crystal litter in them? That is the only thing I can even remotely think of that might work, but I am not sure how to do it without harming the units.
