Leaking Sanisolution

Postby index1999 » Mon Dec 14, 2009 7:41 pm

I've had my CG unplugged for a few days now since I'm trying the clay litter/granules transition. I have noticed that about 1-2 times a day, there is a long drip on the side. When I go to clean it, it's very sticky and smells like sanisolution. I'm not sure why this would be slowly leaking, particularly since the CG is unplugged. Is this normal?

Sounds to me like one of your kitties is peeing over the side.

No, I actually wiped this area with my finger and it was extremely sticky. When I smelled it, it was the very strong fragrance smell of Sanisolution. It's also dripping below the area where the Sanisolution comes out, that's why I know it is most definitely the Sanisolution that's slowly leaking. This might be normal and undetected by most because theirs is running often enough they don't notice this. I think it's invisible when you only use the granules also. I didn't notice it until I added in the Cat Attract additive and the dust from that immediately clung to this streak.

Sorry, but my friend's cat pees all over that same spot (she has the dome) and it gets all sticky...so I thought perhaps that was your problem.

Initially I thought that might be it as well, but after seeing it so many times, I got brave enough to run my finger across and smell it.

Actually, I had a friend have this happen. It began to leak internally and the sani-solution collected inside the processing unit's case.

It completely destroyed the electronics inside.

I noticed a yellow puddle under the processor and some running down the front when I cleaned mine out yesterday. I thought it was pee, but I wasn't brave enough to put my finger in it and smell it. I just wiped it all up. I was thinking about this before I even read the post. I think it would be a good idea while the unit is not running to take the cartridge out and set up upside down, so that way it doesn't leak. I would think that the force of gravity would eventually pull some of it out, but I could be wrong.

The Sanisolution is clear. As I noted earlier, "my" CG has the dome, and the male cat that uses it sticks his head out the door while he's peeing, and basically pees right on the PU, so it runs down the front, underneath into the interface area between the PU and the base, etc. It gets all sticky when it dries. Anyway, if it's yellow, I don't think it's Sanisolution.

Yes, my drip was clear and definitely the sanisolution. I took the unit apart and cleaned it the other day and haven't noticed it dripping again, so perhaps it was just not sitting firmly in it's place or something. I'm going to keep an eye on it but it looks like the problem may have been resolved.

This is usually a problem with the cartridge nipple cracking... :(
