Upgrade my ass... this whole things just one big scam with a slight twist. The twist being that you get $100 for their receipt of your old CPU.

you kinda have to read the following from the bottom up the bottom being my original question the middle being their reply and the top being my reply to them that I made five minutes ago. Wether or not you reason with me is up to you but goin by the numbers I can surely say this upgrade is one big ass joke and that I will NOT be upgrading to the new 120.

You call that an upgrade... lol. Thats a Joke... your basically charging everyone full price with the exception that they get a $100 credit upon receipt of the old CPU.

Thats not an upgrade, thats an exchange with a slight benefit of trading up. Going by those rules alone thats like paying $529 for the Cat Genie. This is where the math comes in.

$300 for the original CG plus $329 for the new 120 model minus $100 for the return of the old CPU which brings a grand total of $529. Now while that may seem fair to you guys thats nothing but a joke... it's like buying two CG's but only getting the use of one since the old CPU is getting returned. If anything you guys are ripping the customers off and hoping they buy before they bitch.

How to Upgrade to the CatGenie 120

Your old Processing Unit has a Trade-In Value of $100.

1) Starting in August, current CatGenie Owners can upgrade on the CatGenie website at CATGENIE 120 UPGRADE. As a current owner, you would only purchase the CATGENIE 120 UPGRADE PACKAGE at the price indicated. You'll receive $100 when you return your old Processing Unit. We can recycle it properly and completely. Do NOT return the rest of your CatGenie. Better to recycle it locally as it costs more to ship than the plastic is worth.



2) Your CATGENIE 120 UPGRADE includes the completely new CatGenie 120 Model and new Manuals. I agree 100 percent with andrew...I just got the old model,the public should have been notified that the new model was coming out.so

Ty for seeing my side of this... it would be a better deal if they offered a bit more money off. Dont get me wrong I'm not lookin to get away with a free unit all be it that would be nice. The only way there even trying to make this sound like a sweet deal is by saying wow what a great deal that you get $125 of free supplies. Not that you dont get free supplies anyway just by placing a regular order lol.

As for the rainwater thing, I'm intrigued (sp?) so yes please PM me on the info ;-)

I disagree with both of you. YES...for people that purchased in the past 6 months it is not much of a deal... BUT can you site ANY product or industry that will just give you an upgrade for free (when an actual physical product is involved.. ie. Not software)? You understand at some point they are going to launch a new model... if you bought the Samsung LCD TV in December for Christmas... do you expect them to send you a new LED TV they released in Jan? Do you think they should or would give you any rebate? The new Iphone came out in June... if you bought the 3G in Feb.. guess what NO UPGRADE FOR FREE...

YOU DO NOT have to upgrade! NOW if you are like me and you have had your unit for 3 years... it may make sense to take the upgrade. I actually bought a new unit 2 months ago from Costco... then I read that the new unit was coming... so I returned it. If your unit is that new... just USE it. DO NOT UPGRADE. It is not like the new unit is dramatically different.

I see people crying in here that they took down the hopper upgrade... HOW LONG should they have left this up there? It has been up there for what 7 months now? WHY do you NOW need to upgrade the hopper? You clearly knew about it for months leading up to this because you noticed they removed it. That is how the real world works... they can not give everyone a new model.

The way I look at it is.. it is a great deal for people that have been long term customers... it is a fair deal for customers that have had the unit for over a year... and if your unit is less then a year old... KEEP it and use it for a couple more years! Guess what.. in 2 years when your unit is old they will have a new one!

You could also buy the new unit and compare the 2 side by side. If you don't like the new one...return it within the 90 period. Simple as that... :D

I'm already confused as to whether you're supposed to run the "pouch," "cartridge," or both?

I'm still pretty upset about the removal of the new hand & scrubber however. I was planning on ordering that shortly. :( That doesn't seem very customer friendly to me.


You run the pouch, which comes with your order of either the 120 tabby or tuxedo package, in September the maintenance pouch will come in cartridge form, I hope that cleared up some of your questions.

Well I figured out a way to get a free upgrade (even swap) anyone interested can PM me even though how to get the free upgrade should be fairly easy to figure out.

As for the quit crying comment... I can see where you look at it as crying but you have to look at it from out point of view as well. For every upgrade that ever comes out the cost will just keep going up n up n up and still leave us with one CG. I figure in about 5 years time with upgrades and CPU turn ins the cost for having a single CG will eventually be over a grand and then some.

That would only be true if you are forced to upgrade. The last unit has been on the market for 4 maybe 5 years... I am not sure to be honest. I have had mine for 3 years. After 3 years it sill works fine. I could upgrade, but I can choose to keep using this one for another year.

NOW if the company announced that starting in August they would no longer offer the 60 cycle cartridge and you had to pay for the new unit I would agree with your cost breakdown. However I look at it this way:

1. New unit @ Costco with supplies delivered: $279
2. Remove the cost of supplies you get with the unit: $75 in Sanisolution $50 in Washable Granules

This means you are paying $154 at the end of the day for the processor alone. It will last a minimum of 2 years because of the warranty. I am sure many last 4 to 5 years, but lets say the unit lasts an average of 1 year past the warranty. This puts the annual cost of JUST the processor at $50. IF you want to assert that the unit only lasts the 2 years of the warranty.. this puts the annual cost of equipment at $77!

In your argument you are including the cost of the additional sanisolution and granules. Since these are consumables you need to back them out of the cost to upgrade.... or buy a new unit.

I know this is a simplified way of looking at this, but to me paying $50 or even $100 in equipment cost is a no brainier.

Personally, I think they oughta leave the hopper upgrade on the website, to service anyone that owns the CG 60 (or whatever you want to call it). I bought mine used off eBay. Paid 'em $250 for it. I got a deal, they got more than turning in just the processor to PN. I didn't want the new CG, I wanted the old one. But I wanted all the upgrades - thankfully, they were still up on the website. So, what happens when somebody sells their old CG on eBay now? No way for the new user to upgrade the pieces-parts.

I do not think they offer them for free because they are such a great company... they do it because it also benefits them... the more people that switch to the new hopper... the less calls they get with issues. I live in arkansas. we don't have Costco's. Heck, we got some places that are just now getting off their phone party line! :-) I bought the equivalent of the Tuxedo package - dome, sidewalls, etc. I'm guessing that's more than the $279 from Costco (but could be wrong - doesn't matter, as it's all academic anyways).

Ugh, I wish I ordered mine from CostCo originally.

I ordered from a place that typically has an excellent return policy but for CG they said, sorry no returns at all, due to the nature of the product.

But, I also have been saving money by not having an active CostCo membership for the past months.

Not having a CostCo near -- you can just order online.

It has only been 4 months and 6 days since my CG arrived, and that is a REALLY bad deal for me. And yes, I want the new one. I wish I had read that the new one was coming out. They really should charge less for the upgrade, especially for us who bought recently.
