It's all about conditioning the customer. You want the customer to have a good outlook from beginning to end. If you prepare the customer properly for anything unusual that might happen, they will be more likely to deal with it positively and still have a good outlook on the company.

CatGenie fails miserably to prepare customers for undesirable events.

Yes, I knew that the shipping rules were different, that's not what I'm complaining about. People in the USA get free shipping, while Canadians have to pay for shipping (quite expensive I might add) - so it was obvious that the shipping rules were different. That's a big downer, however I was fine with that because the CatGenie was such a cool machine I was willing to absorb the shipping.

The thing that really upset me getting charged ANOTHER $150 by FedEx on top of the $50 or $100 I had already paid CatGenie for shipping.

Paying so much money for a litterbox, then having to pay another $150 at the door before you can collect your package puts a really bad taste in your mouth.

CatGenie knows about this extra charge to Canadians from FedEx but they do not warn us.

Not only that, but CatGenie KNOWS you can order the CatGenie from Robot Shop and save about $150 in superfluous shipping fees.

If CatGenie told Canadian customers that they can get the machine shipped from Canada at Robot Shop and save a huge amount of money - that would put a very big smile on the customer's face, turning a potentially terrible experience into a very positive experience.

You know...you can save on all those shipping charges. Just have Canada apply as our 51st state... ;) :D

Well...not exactly. Canada hasn't submitted their state flag design yet... ;)

No...we actually only have 50 states and a few islands. :D

The firming agent of choice turned out to be the right high quality food (after a lot of tries), and this:

Impressive stuff. I tried a lot of things, but this was the ingredient that brought me from slurryville to brownietown.

i'm glad the eagle pack stuff worked for you, but 2 of the first 4 ingredients are corn products (super cheap, low quality, and the most frequent cause of food allergies), and the first ingredient isn't even meat (it's a meal, which is a lower quality protein source). not exactly the best quality food.[/strike]

i was looking at the "super premium" line, disregard the above paragraph.

the select stuff looks okay. the main protein source is still a low quality one.

I was referring to the powder you sprinkle on their food. It's mainly probiotics and some inulin. 1/4tsp per cup of food.. not going to be a big problem. I add it to Evo or Wellness, neither of which have any grains.

I figure I would update you folks on my current struggle with the CatGenie (litterbox from hell)

I have been having more issues non stop ever since I've posted here.

it's to the point where I literally have to sit by the CatGenie for 15 minutes every time I press start with a hot water hose so I can wash the granules myself.

30% of the time the water doesn't work, and when it doesn't work - it makes the house smell like a dead crackhead soaked in urine baking in the sun. Seriously it smells like if you urinate in a pot and boil it on the stove until it burns.

It's disgusting, and it's a health hazard for my pregnant wife. She's not even supposed to be around the odor of cat urine, let alone live in a house where it's baked for 15 minutes a day. It's a real health hazard and it's just nasty.

Also, the turds don't get ground up by the hopper, they just get stuck in there - so I gotta spray water in the hopper at a high intensity so that it gets things moving.

So I literally have to babysit it for 15 mins every time I press start.

I've called customer service 4 times in the past couple of weeks.

Each time they didn't answer and I've had to leave a message. The first time they didn't call me back. The second and third time they called me back at an inconvenient time, and said they'd call me back a couple hours later and never did. The 4th time was tonight.

I am just sick to death of CatGenie. If only it granted wishes, I'd have some resolution afterall.

Are you saying that you have to manually hose because there is no water coming in at the appropriate times (that would explain why the turds aren’t able to be ground up too) ?

If that’s the case, then check and clean the water sensor. I had the no-water issue even though supply was fine and had been working fine. I got a completed cycle with no error beeps. The tech I spoke to said that if the sensor is dirty it can fool the unit into thinking it is already full with water so the water valve never opens.

Hope that solves your problem....

I'll give that a try, I just hate how many issues I'm running into and I want a new one for frig sakes.

I'll even pay half price for it they just need to budge.

1) The language in here is very childish
2) The cat genie is the best thing I have ever bought for any cat I've had. My two newest are using it. That makes 3 that have used it.

3) There have been problems but my car (not a Toyota) had a flat tire once.

The hopper should have included a rubber "bouncy-ball". It is a half a*s work around that they came up with when we told them that the solids were just sitting there and not going down. Also, there is a grey ring around the bottom. It can be removed to enlarge the hole if the solids are too big. Hope this helps some at least.

Have you ever tried to run the cleaning automatic? It sounds like you have a clog because you manually run it not enough. A sure fire way to cause this. With your tirate going, I am surprised that customer service did not hang up on you. Since you used to be in customer service you know how bad calls can be. Grow up.
