For those of you who doubt the importance of better time control, I submit our situation. We run an indoor sanctuary for feral and abandoned cats with all kinds of medical and social issues. Our facility currently houses 95 cats and we have 13 Genies running 24X7. The Genies are all set to the 4 times a day (6 hour) interval, and as you can imagine, they get unacceptably full before 6 hours are up. It is also very hard to set up the cycles so they are staggered enough to have a few clean ones at any given time. Admittedly, our situation is unusual, maybe unique, but fine-grained time of day based scheduling would be a lifesaver to us. I am going to check out each Genie and see which ones behave as described, and put those suckers on timers TOMORROW!

I wonder... could it be you have to kill the timer first by pressing and releasing the Auto button until all leds goes out. Wait a few seconds, and then just press auto once but do not set a time. Then will the genie run each time it is plugged in? I haven't tried it because I do not want to set my 2am time again. Right now I set it early and then , on a weekend, unplug it for a few hours to get the delay until 2am.

There are many devices that do not require a battery to store a value. PC's use it mainly to keep the clock running and if not needed, they would use something not requiring the battery.

I also bought the timer and can't get it to work. I set the CG for 1 cycle, unplugged it, plugged it into the timer and when the timer turned on, the CG ran through its test and went silent. Same as if I didn't have the timer. My CG is a year old and on its second controller. The controller wasn't new, just a refurb as far as I could tell. Other than the inaccurate timer/clock it has worked without a mishap for months. I just have to reset the timer every month to keep the same times. At the end of a month it is starting a half hour later each time than when it was set for. That causes a problem when you are running more than one CG. Other than that my units run faithfully with only an empty cartridge alarm. No odors either. I haven't cleaned them or opened them for at least 5 months. Thanks PetNovations.

OK, so I finally got off my butt and got a timer for my catgenie. HOWEVER, though I have followed the instructions at the beginning of this thread, the catgenie will turn ON at the programmed time but will not run. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for your patience with this newb.
