Just suspend the abusers. You know the codes. Disable them when they are posted to forums. Easy breezy.
Another option is to just lower the price of the product or provide central coupon codes. If people are abusing the program, kill it. I wish I could say I have pity for your company, but don't provide a service you cannot afford. The end-game is you get more customers. So either regulate or get over it and sell as many catgenies as you can.
I like your product, but the money grubbing is leaving a bad odor in the litterbox.

We have not suspended the codes yet, and the post I made was to make a point, and hopefully people will respond. We think we have a great customer base and we want to reward people for referring customers and growing our business. THAT is why I specifically said we were examining it before we make a decision. As a company we feel obligated to our customers, and want them to be aware as much as we can about what we are doing. And that is why I felt it was important to voice our concerns and since this topic seemed perfect, I posted before we make any changes to a system that we love and our customers love.
While I do not want to get into an argument with you, and you are entitled to your opinion, the only point that I will take issue with is your reference to "money grubbing". It costs more than you think to create, test, build, market and support a product like the CatGenie. Changing peoples habits is not easy or cheap. As we grow we will reduce expenses, and when we do, we will pass it on to the customer--It is good business sense.
