Harvest Venture...silica sand vs. silica crystalline

Postby Momma » Sun Nov 30, 2003 2:41 pm

First, I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving!
Second...onto the question...Until the new LitterFree Self Washing comes out, (I hope!) I have to use conventional litter types. I tried Feline Pine, but it seemed so messy when it turned into sawdust. Then we used the World's Best Cat Litter made of corn. That worked well, but we started finding bugs in it...YUCK! Now we're using Yesterday's News, but I'm not crazy over it. I found something called Harvest Venture's Track-Less Litter Pearls. I read a review on it and it said it is safe because it uses silica sand in the pearls, not silica crystalline. I went online to read more on the differences of the two, but I still don't think the silica sand sounds safe...any advice? I want nothing but safe for my boys!
Thanks!

Postby sage » Mon Dec 01, 2003 6:41 am

Ahhh Geez! I just changed to the WBCL abn love it! :) This is the second post about bugs in it. I hope I don't get them. A lot of people here like the Petco Gold plus littler. Can you use a clay litter? Sage

using clay

Hi Sage! Youa re the first person to answer me since I've been on the board! Thank you! I'm so excited!
Anyway... when I think of clay I think of dust, mess and smell. After I posted my post...(?)...I found more about the pearls. It seems like they should be safe...I'm trying it out today. I have three boys that are 16 months old (I don't have children so I treat my kitties like people treat their children...so I say 16 months old...humor me). Pumpkin, the curious, tried it out without a problem. I picked him up, put him in the box and fine! AND NO SMELL! Just a little noisy. Pop, the detective, investigated the boxes after sneaking up on them, but didn't use it yet. Pip, my "me too" little baby, saw what the other two did so he investigated like Pop and let me put him in like Pumpkin and then freaked out over the sound.
My boys are used to living in a great, big beautiful home in NJ and we have temporarily relocated to Georgia before we move to Florida. So we are in a townhouse/apartment. There wasn't any place for the litter boxes, so my friend suggested to put the boxes in the spare bathroom tub. It works out great, but the echo form the tub's accoustics freaked little Pippy, so I put a towel under the boxes for now to lessen the noise. I just looked in the bathroom and he's investigated again. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
Thanks so much for getting back to me!
Have a good one! :lol:
