Anyone try PaPurr?

Postby tjl153 » Thu Mar 22, 2007 1:24 pm

Has anyone tried this litter before? I thought it seemed interesting. I'm thinking of getting a Cat Genie and this stuff seemed like it would feel similar to the granulles that machine uses.

I've heard bad things about the health issues of clumping and crystals being ingested by kittens, so this seems like a better option for my kittens. I bought a bag today and hope my kittens like it when I bring them home.

Alright...I finally got my kittens. They seem to like the PaPurr litter. It clumps well. And its flushable, which is very nice. The only problem is that the grains are very small, and the sides of the box are a little high for my kittens and they jump out and get the sand-like litter all over. I also have a CG and far less of the CG granules end up on the floor as opposed to the PaPurr litter.

I noticed several different types of "recycled paper" litter yesterday at Petsmart.

Do people agree that this type of litter is good? I'm getting a Litter Robot and wonder how well it would work in it.

I thought the papurr was good until I tried Worlds Best Cat Litter. This stuff is way better than the papurr. The papurr didn't clump as well, and didn't absorb odors very well at all. I had to add baking soda stuff to the litter to keep it from stinking, and that still didn't work that well. With WBCL, there is NO smell! This litter is expensive though, but so was the papurr, so if you're willing to spend the $$, you should try it.

I have used some of the papurr scoop (clumping) recently...
Good points
1. Does a pretty good job on odor control
2. Feels like sand, so cats tend to like it.
3. Lighter weight than clay, but heavier than some other organic litters so not as likely to get out of the box.
4. Cheaper than WBCL and sometimes goes on sale (at petsmart)
5. Not very smelly, a slight "aloe" smell to it, but no heavy perfume.

Bad points
1. I used this in an omega paw roll-away box (basicaly a non-motorized litter robot that you have to roll).
Although it does clump, it absorbs very slowly, so the clumps become spread out and stuck to the bottom and sides of my omega paw...meaning I had to scrape the sides.
2. Clumps fairly weakly, so clumps would break apart easily when rolling and trying to scoop them out.

I solved these problem by mixing 50/50 with WBCL (world's best cat litter). But all WBCL works even better in terms of the clumping and not-sticking. IMO feline pine scoop (clumping) also works better than the papurr scooop AND it is lighter weight. BUT it tracks worse and gets on the cat's faces.

I'd say go with WBCL rather than papurr, or do a 50/50 mix of both.

I tried it and hated it.

1. horrible weird chemical smell

2. turns slimy when wet and doesn't really clump so much as glue itself to everything

3. I am not convinced it is any safer than any other litter available - what about all the chemicals used to produce paper, and the inks and so on, and the bleaching agents? Also it is coated with clay anyway.

If you want a good safe litter for kittens I recommend World's Best Cat Litter.
